Choosing the perfect Las Vegas Hotel isn’t difficult. The great thing about choosing a hotel in Vegas is there is something for every traveler. From the basic digs to ultra posh accommodations, they have it covered. There are 3 things to consider when selecting a Resort.

- Location
- Downtown
- Strip
- Off-Strip
- Budget
- Amenities
- Pool
- Spa
- Food Choices
- Entertainment
Location
Do you spend most of your time downtown or on the Strip? Do you want to try a different location or are you pretty set with your tried and true favorite? If you are going for the first time, I would suggest a central Strip location near Bally’s, Bellagio, Caesars Palace area. I also like the area near Harrah’s and the Flamingo as there are tons of great things to do nearby.
Downtown is a much smaller area and is home to many of the original Las Vegas casino’s. You will hear downtown area referred to often as Fremont Street or “Old Vegas”. It is much smaller than the strip and easier to navigate. Even if you don’t end up choosing a hotel in the downtown Fremont area, I definitely recommend taking an evening to visit. It is a great area with plenty to take in.
After your first trip you will have a better idea of where you enjoy spending your time. I honestly like to try a different hotel each trip if possible. You seem to get a little different experience every visit by trying a new location.
Budget
Another great thing about Las Vegas is the ability to find a budget friendly option for most people. Keep in mind that just about every resort has a “Resort Fee” in addition to the rate quoted. This can sometimes be deceiving to your bottom line. The Resort Fees range anywhere from $25 to $45 per night. Being aware of this can save some price shock at checkout. I ALWAYS recommend booking directly with the hotel either on their website or by calling. Many third party sites will not factor in the resort fee. That crazy low rate may just not be so great when you add an additional $35 per night when you check in. Another reason NOT to book third party is you will not get any reward credits on your player card for your stay. Those reward credits will pay off in the way of future room deals.
Don’t lose out on earning those rewards just because it “looks” like a great deal to book on another site. Always check your rates on www.mlife.com , www.caesars.com or directly with whichever resort you have chosen, to see exactly what you will be paying. Nobody likes to spend more than they planned.
Amenities
Once you have an idea of your location and budget your choices will already be slightly narrowed down. Now let’s narrow down even further by getting more specific with your preferred amenities. Are you going during pool season and plan to spend your days poolside? If so, you will definitely want to pick a resort with a great pool. Some have adult only pools or kid friendly pools depending on your needs. Other amenities to consider is SPA availability, workout room and food choices in and around the resort. You should be able to find a great resort to call home for a few days that will meet all of your requirements and stay within budget.
