Safety in Las Vegas is a first priority. Las Vegas, like any tourist destination has its share of crime. You can help to reduce your risk of becoming a victim of crime by following some simple tips.
Securing your Cash and Valuables

Do not flash your money. Carry a crossbody purse and keep it in front of you at all times. Never pull your wallet out of your purse. No one needs to see your stash of cash. Pull out the money you need without taking the wallet out of your bag. For the guys…. I suggest putting your wallet in a front pocket. I imagine it isn’t the most comfortable, but there are some talented pickpockets out there and they know the odds of people carrying large amounts of cash around in Vegas is a pretty good bet.
Use the in room safe to store valuables and cash you won’t need to take out with you. Always make sure it is locked when you leave the room.
When leaving your room, always check that the door has completely closed behind you and is locked.
Safety Out and About
Don’t wander too far off the beaten path. Areas can get pretty sketchy just one street over from the busiest places. Stay in well lit, busy areas especially at night.
You will be approached as you walk up and down the street. It is best to avoid eye contact and reply with a simple no thank you as you keep moving. Don’t accept anything from anyone. People will hand things to you and then want you to pay them for it and won’t take it back. Just ignore them and keep walking. If you do accept the CD of music from that nice dude or a beaded bracelet from the man sporting a toga, definitely be ready to hand him some money for it.
Always keep your eyes on your beverage. Things can be lively and very distracting. Don’t let down your guard. People prey on the fact that people get careless when they drink. Always be alert and don’t let yourself be out of control. Stay with your travel partners and keep each other in check as much as possible.
Re-hydrate!!! Even on the hottest day you may never break a sweat. It isn’t that you aren’t sweating, but that it is evaporating before you know it. Rotate plenty of water in your beverage intake. Being sick from dehydration is no way to spend a trip to Las Vegas.
The safety in Las Vegas speech always seems like a buzzkill, but if you take these precautions you will hopefully reduce your likeliness to fall victim.
